National Math and Science Initiative's Acclaimed Teacher Training Program Reaches Enrollment Milestone of 5,500 Students

UTeach, the National Math and Science Initiative's (NMSI) teacher training program, has reached the milestone of 5,500 teachers in training and 800 program graduates.The program, which connects students majoring in math, science, or computer science with teaching certification, is now in universities across the country. Both NMSI and UTeach are 100Kin10 partners.

DePaul, Loyola to partner with 2 Chicago high schools

DePaul University is partnering with a newly-designated Chicago STEM high school. Juniors and seniors at Lake View High School can take courses at the University for college credit and will be considered first for admission to the University. Moreover, DePaul is taking an active role in the school's curriculum re-design and teacher professional development.

Universities, Districts to Partner on Common-Core Secondary Math

The Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities' science- and math-focused initiative is coordinating a new project focused on redesigning secondary math teacher preparation in conjunction with the implementation of the Common Core State Standards. The universities, community colleges, and school districts range across 30 states.

Iowa announces hubs for science/technology education effort

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad and his STEM advisory council announce six STEM education hubs throughout the state. Housed at universities and community colleges, these hubs will encourage students to pursue degrees and careers in STEM fields. This marks the first major actions by Gov. Branstad's STEM advisory council.
